New 2009 RAM releases. International Year of Astronomy.

2009 marks the 400th anniversary of Galileo Galilei's first astronomical observation through a telescope. In celebrating the International year of Astronomy in 2009 the vision is to help people rediscover their place in the universe. To mark this occasion The Royal Australian Mint is theming their 2009 coin issues accordingly.

Available now is:

• the 2009 Six coin Proof set, the $1 coin design featuring the Parkes Radio Telescope. This set retails for $115 -note a price increase from the 2008 price of $95


• the 2009 Six coin Uncirculated set, the 20c coin featuring 3 star gazers sky-observing. This set retails for $30.


• the 2009 Two coin Proof set features the themed 20c and the mob of roos one dollar. This set retails for $45.


• the 2009 Two coin Uncirculated set features the themed one dollar and the regular designed platypus 20c. This set retails for $15.

It is an interesting method that the RAM has deployed releasing all the designs in different sets so to keep your collection complete you have to buy all the sets. I have only touched on the International Year of Astronomy releases here, there are many many more issues.
